EXHIBITION | Matjaž Tančič: EX TERRA
March 3–23, 2026
MoTA – Museum of Transitory Art
Celovška cesta 42b, Ljubljana

Opening: Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at 7:00 PM

You are warmly invited to the opening of the exhibition EX TERRA by Slovenian photographer and researcher Matjaž Tančič!

EX TERRA
The Ex Terra project is an extensive photographic and research endeavor that, through a seven-year journey across four continents — from the USA and Europe to Africa and Asia — documents people and communities whose work and vision shape the global ambition of space exploration. The project reveals how smaller countries and communities, long overlooked, are becoming key protagonists in the space narrative — through scientific innovation, technological contributions, and transnational research networks that fundamentally reshape the architecture of contemporary space exploration.

Focusing on the human dimension of these efforts, Ex Terra tells the stories of space architects, doctors, scientists, food producers, and others who are shaping our future beyond Earth, while also revealing how space innovations are already transforming life on our planet. Space is not merely a technical challenge, but an ideological and cultural field in which our hopes, fears, and social structures are reflected. This is a testimony to creativity, resilience, and the collective power of humanity — a document of a future we are not merely discovering, but actively co-creating.

The exhibition is supported by the Ministry of Economy, Tourism and Sport.

MoTA –

Museum of Transitory Art

MoTA is a multidisciplinary platform dedicated to advancing the research, production and presentation of transitory, experimental, and live art forms.

MoTA is a museum without a permanent collection or a fixed space. Instead, its programs are realised in different locations and contexts in temporary physical and virtual spaces.

MoTA organizes and supports transitory art in the form of continuous events, exhibitions and educational programs both locally and internationally. As its name indicates, MoTA examines what a museum can be today and in the future.

MoTA is in constant search for the new, the uncertain, and the undefined.

MoTA works on several continuous programmes & projects. We run MoTA Point – a Space for Art & Ideas, we curate and produce the annual SONICA Festival, in addition to regular music programmes such as SONICA Series and SONICA Classics.

Within the years of running our residency programme, we’ve established T.R.I.B.E. – a network of residency spaces in the Balkans & Eastern Europe.

We’ve also initiated the research and archive platforms ArtistTalk.eu and Mediateque MoTA & Tomaž Brate. Our educational programmes serve a broader audience with ongoing workshops, talks, symposia, and internships.
