Artist Talk: Vadim Fiškin and Blaž Peršin
Thursday, 15 October, at 7 PM
Sonic Pavilion, MoTA LAB

As part of the exhibition marking the 30th anniversary of Lighthouse, a seminal work by internationally acclaimed artist Vadim Fiškin (1965), we are pleased to announce a conversation between the artist and Blaž Peršin, Director of MGML.

Vadim Fiškin
Vadim Fiškin (Penza, 1965) graduated from the Moscow Architectural Institute in 1986. He lived in Moscow until 1996 and is now based in Ljubljana. His work explores the relationship between science, personal experience, desire and imagination; between metaphysics and pragmatism; and between the artificial and the real. Fiškin reveals subtle connections and sparks the viewer’s curiosity without providing a definitive answer as to their meaning.

Many of his installations, sculptures, photographs and drawings—addressing subjects such as geography, time, light, aeronautics and meteorology—are characterised by his distinctive sense of humour. His work has been presented in numerous group and solo exhibitions, including the Venice Biennale (1995, 2003, 2005 and 2017), the 1st Valencia Biennale, Manifesta 1 in Rotterdam, Manifesta 10 at the Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg, the Jeu de Paume National Gallery in Paris, Moderna galerija in Ljubljana, Galerie Gregor Podnar in Berlin, Martin-Gropius-Bau in Berlin, Palazzo della Ragione in Milan, Secession and BA WAG Foundation in Vienna, ZKM in Karlsruhe, MACRO in Rome, and the Drawing Center in New York.

Fiškin first worked in Slovenia in 1992 at the invitation of Dragan Živadinov, with whom he co-created three theatre projects. He has also collaborated with M. Berger, I. Kovač, E. Hrvatin, B. Jablanovec and I. Buljan, among others. He maintains an ongoing collaboration with choreographer and dancer Mateja Bučar.

MoTA –

Museum of Transitory Art

MoTA is a multidisciplinary platform dedicated to advancing the research, production and presentation of transitory, experimental, and live art forms.

MoTA is a museum without a permanent collection or a fixed space. Instead, its programs are realised in different locations and contexts in temporary physical and virtual spaces.

MoTA organizes and supports transitory art in the form of continuous events, exhibitions and educational programs both locally and internationally. As its name indicates, MoTA examines what a museum can be today and in the future.

MoTA is in constant search for the new, the uncertain, and the undefined.

MoTA works on several continuous programmes & projects. We run MoTA Point – a Space for Art & Ideas, we curate and produce the annual SONICA Festival, in addition to regular music programmes such as SONICA Series and SONICA Classics.

Within the years of running our residency programme, we’ve established T.R.I.B.E. – a network of residency spaces in the Balkans & Eastern Europe.

We’ve also initiated the research and archive platforms ArtistTalk.eu and Mediateque MoTA & Tomaž Brate. Our educational programmes serve a broader audience with ongoing workshops, talks, symposia, and internships.
