Nataša Prosenc Stearns: Against the Sun
Video installation Against the Sun reinterprets the meaning of sunset. The images originate from the Los Angeles beaches of Venice, Santa Monica, Malibu, Manhattan Beach and Marina Del Rey. Everything was shot “against the sun,” which created dark, often scary silhouettes, shadows and abstract images. They change the stereotype of a sentimental sunset into an ominous sight. The space, that is usually associated with glamour, entertainment and fun, and is dictating the trends of the Western world, is shown without the usual polish. The factory of dreams is dreaming its nightmare.
