The exhibition was open 24 July – 25 August 2024
The Cascades series consists of six sculptural works in ceramic, glass and glaze, which transition between each other and take on qualities of form. The glass and ceramics shrink and stretch differently when heated and cooled, leading to cracks or even disintegration. Cracks cause different sounds. The sound experience of cracks has a unique tone and intensity that can cause feelings of discomfort and stress or a sense of satisfaction.
The presence of different types of cracks, from barely visible hairline cracks to deep and pronounced fractures, allows for a deeper understanding and connection with the work and evokes feelings of transience, fragility.
In the installation Cascades, this experience is translated into an immersive sound installation for the gallery space.
