MoTA LAB kindly invites you to the second exhibition at the Sonic Pavilion!

To mark the 30th anniversary of the acclaimed light installation Lighthouse by internationally renowned artist Vadim Fishkin (1965), who has been living and working in Ljubljana since 1992, we announce his exhibition at MoTA LAB. Lighthouse, which has so far been presented in Rotterdam, Vienna, Moscow, Merano, Plovdiv and Prizren, is based on a light signal that flashes in the rhythm of Fishkin’s heartbeat, wherever in the world the artist may be. His heartbeat is transmitted via mobile technology to the light installation, turning MoTA LAB into a lighthouse that sends signals out into the world.

Vadim Fishkin
Vadim Fishkin (born 1965 in Penza, USSR) lived in Moscow until 1996; he currently lives and works in Ljubljana. He studied at the Moscow Institute of Architecture, from which he graduated in 1986. His work explores the relationships between science, personal experience, desire, and the imagination, between metaphysics and pragmatism, and between the artificial and the real. The artist succeeds in uncovering subtle connections that arouse viewers’ curiosity, yet leaves them guessing about the ultimate meaning. Fishkin’s main area of investigation is science and its study methods as he uses technological advances for essentially poetic purposes and many of his installations, sculptures, photographs, and drawings are informed by his distinctive sense of humor. His work has been presented in numerous group and solo exhibitions, including at four Venice Biennials (in 1995, 2003, 2005, 2017); the 1st Valencia Biennial; the Manifesta 1, Rotterdam; Manifesta 10, Hermitage Museum, St. Petersburg ,the 3rd Istanbul Biennial; the 8th Baltic Triennial of International Art, Vilnius; eva+, Limerick; Casino Luxembourg, Luxembourg; the Secession, Vienna; Galerie Nationale du Jeu de Paume, Paris; FRAC Lorraine, Metz; Moderna galerija, Ljubljana, Galerija Gregor Podnar; Galerija Škuc, Ljubljana; Contemporary Art Center, Moscow; Galerie für Zeitgenössische Kunst, Leipzig; Martin- Gropius-Bau, Berlin; Künstlerhaus Bethanien, Berlin; Palazzo dell Ragione, Milano; BAWAG Foundation, Vienna; ZKM, Center for Art and Media, Karlsruhe; MACRO Museum for Contemporary Art, Rome; Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Boston; and the Drawing Center, New York; 9th Shanghai Biennale, Shanghai.

Museum of Transitory Art

MoTA is a multidisciplinary platform dedicated to advancing the research, production and presentation of transitory, experimental, and live art forms.

MoTA is a museum without a permanent collection or a fixed space. Instead, its programs are realised in different locations and contexts in temporary physical and virtual spaces.

MoTA organizes and supports transitory art in the form of continuous events, exhibitions and educational programs both locally and internationally. As its name indicates, MoTA examines what a museum can be today and in the future.

MoTA is in constant search for the new, the uncertain, and the undefined.

MoTA works on several continuous programmes & projects. We run MoTA Point – a Space for Art & Ideas, we curate and produce the annual SONICA Festival, in addition to regular music programmes such as SONICA Series and SONICA Classics.

Within the years of running our residency programme, we’ve established T.R.I.B.E. – a network of residency spaces in the Balkans & Eastern Europe.

We’ve also initiated the research and archive platforms ArtistTalk.eu and Mediateque MoTA & Tomaž Brate. Our educational programmes serve a broader audience with ongoing workshops, talks, symposia, and internships.
